Sixty years ago, the University of Chicago launched a very important project: a new translation of Greek tragedies that will be the ultimate resource for teachers, students and readers. They succeeded.

Under the management of experts from prominent classics David Grene and Richmond Lattimore, these translations combined precision and poetic immediacy and clarity of presentation to deliver masterpieces Eeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides remaining in English so dynamically and attractively that they remain standard translations. Today, Chicago is making every effort to ensure that Greek tragedies remain the leading versions of English throughout the 21st century.

In this forthcoming third edition, Mark Griffith and Glenn W. Most have carefully updated translations to bring them closer to ancient Greek while retaining the dynamism of our English versions.

This edition also includes new translations of Euripides Medea, The Children of Heracles, Andromache, Iphigenia among the Taurians, fragments of the plays lost by Aeschylus, and the rest of Sophocles's satyr - the drama "The Tracker" . The new introductions of each game provide background information on its first production, plot, and reception in antiquity and beyond.

In addition, each folder contains an introduction to the life and work of its bankrupt, as well as notes dealing with textual uncertainties and a glossary of the names and places mentioned in the plays. In addition to the new content, the folders have been reorganized within and between sizes to reflect the most recent grant in the order in which the plays were originally written.
