Letters from Langston synopsis

Langston Hughes, one of the greatest American writers, was an innovator of jazz poetry and leader of the Harlem Renaissance, whose poems and plays are widely used today. Hughes' accessible, personal and inspirational poems portray the American-African community in conflict in the context of the modern, troubled United States and the rising Black Freedom movement.

This mass of letters between Hughes and four left-wing confidants casts light on his life and politics. Letters from Langston begin in 1930 and end shortly before his death in 1967, providing a window to a unique world, created by Hughes, where he lived easily.

This unique volume brings together the stories of Hughes and his friends in an age of uncertainty and reveals their vision of an ideal world without hunger, war, racism and class oppression.
