No More Tenko My War synopsis

He wrote "No more than TENKO" from the memoirs of Ray Smith, a young British businessman in World War I, who was held by the Japanese in 1942 and was only 18 years old. He was held captive in POW camps on Java and then in Sumatra where he helped build the Central Sumatra Railway.

The book is a moving story about everyday life in the camps. It describes in detail the actual events, the brutality of the Korean guard, the cunning, the creativity, the determination of other prisoners of war and his subsequent appointment as an official translator of the camp, providing a personal view of the relationship between prisoners and their captors..
