The Good Spy synopsis

On April 18, 1983, a bomb exploded outside the US Embassy in Beirut, killing 63 people. The attack was a turning point in US relations with the Muslim world.

This was the beginning of Hezbollah as a political force, but more importantly, it removed the most influential CIA officers in the Middle East - CIA agent Robert Ames. What Ames was different from any other CIA agent was his exceptional ability to form deep and meaningful ties with important personalities in the Arab world.

Others relied on threats or trickery, but Ames worked by building friendships and emphasizing shared values. This unconventional approach has brought unprecedented success - Amis has personally recruited the head of state, Ronald Reagan has advised the Iranian hostage crisis and infiltrated the PLO, turning in part one of its most important leaders, Ali Hassan Salameh.

Salami, who is called the "red prince" of his glowing lifestyle and his heir to Yasser Arafat, was in charge of intelligence in the Palestine Liberation Organization. But Ames was able to win his respect, and to restore an unlikely but powerful friendship - one with the possibility of lasting peace between Palestinians and Israelis.

But it was not to be. Within a few years, both Salameh and Ames died - American relations with the Muslim world were on track a few years later, ending September 11, the rise of Hezbollah, and the war on terror..
