A Specter is Haunting Europe synopsis
Jose Munlin proceeds from established structural or psychological approaches and provides an ideological reading of this literary product of mass culture. In exploring the origin and evolution of the magnificent, Monlecn traces the mind's relationship to the unreasonable in the light of three distinct events that influenced capitalist thinking: the French Revolution, the uprisings of 1848, and the Bolshevik Revolution.
Monelick argues that it reflects social tensions and produces a cultural space to absorb the fears of revolutions - to tame a "ghost" mentioned by Marx and Engels in the Communist Manifesto. At the same time, the brilliant outlook in Europe helped to defend the system by introducing the irrational as a viable speech.
Monlecn pays particular attention to the remarkable development of Spain, whose unique economic and cultural conditions provide a unique background in which to test its model for the development of this species in the rest of Europe. This study covers a wide range of works, including Bcquer, BazNBn, Galdcs, Alarccn, Maupassant, Shelley, Poe, and James, as well as the inscription by Goya. Originally published in 1990.
