Amphibian Evolution synopsis

This book focuses on the first vertebrates of the Earth's invasion and long journey to become completely independent of water. Traces the origin of quadrilateral features and tries to explain how and why they turned into members allowing life on earth.

Although the main framework of the subject lies in the past 370 million years and necessarily deals with many fossils, it is not limited to the science of fossils. The goal is to achieve a comprehensive picture of the evolution of amphibians.

It focuses on the main questions in the current ancient biology: how were the early quadrilateral assortments? In what environments were they living, and how could they be preserved? What do we know about the soft body of extinct amphibians, and what does this tell us about the evolution of vital organs during the transition to Earth? How did early amphibians evolve and grow, and what are the key factors for their evolution? The topics are published in the Paleobiology series in collaboration with the Society of Fossil Science, and are edited by Professor Mike Benton, University of Bristol. The books in the series provide a summary of the current state of knowledge, a reliable path in the basic literature, and serve as indicators of future directions for research.

In addition to volumes on individual collections, the series will also address topics of cross-cutting importance, such as the evolution of important ecosystems, special times and major events in the history of life, climate change and the application of new techniques such as molecular fossils. The books are written by senior international experts and will be set up at an appropriate level for undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers in both biological and biological sciences..
