Asylum Seeking and the Global City synopsis

Asylum and the World City represent two main contemporary topics of analysis that appear in both public and official literature and discourse on human rights, urban socio-economic change and national security. Based on extensive original ethnographic research, this book examines the status of asylum seekers in Hong Kong and provides an account of their experience of internal and external borders, cross-border performance and asylum policies in the context of the global city. Hong Kong is a city that does not have comprehensive legislation covering refugee claims, public opinion, and public opinion dominate the view that the city will be flooded with illegal economic migrants that are policy changes to be implemented.

This book is why Hong Kong has become a destination for asylum seekers, how asylum seekers are integrated into local and global economic markets, and why the illegality of asylum seekers plays an important role in the processes of shaping global cities. This book will be necessary for reading for academics and students involved in the study of migration; globalization and borders.

Methods of research in criminology; social problems and urban sociology.
