Benjamin Tompson synopsis

The first full and reliable edition of a poet among the best in New England in the 17th century, this book presents Benjamin Thompson (1642-1714) as a proud, sensitive and humorous writer who praised leadership and heroism while punishing foolishness, mundane, and dissident. A graduate of Harvard University and principal of the school (Cotton Mather was his pupil), Benjamin Thompson celebrates the poem "New Canaan" in occasional, selfish and sardonic poems, which, to a critic, marks a shift between "colonial colonialist colonialism and Baroque colonialism." The new England crisis, which describes the 1675 year war against the Algonquin (in which the poet performs the first aid duty), is a unique combination of classic epic and journalistic realism.

It is also a clever satire, shrinking from the claims of the new generation of Puritan and Indian leaders. "Funeral Grammarians," although packed with puns and word games, does not rule out linguistic accuracy.

In general, the colonial poet looked back at the lost tradition and the forward to unrealized potential. Approved by Professor White's Center, he presents thirty poems, three letters and a Latin speech, all of which are known with historical and literary information..
