Science fiction is intersecting in many areas. It is a literature based on popular culture, engaging in speculation about science, history and all kinds of social relations.

This volume brings together articles written by scientists and practitioners of science fiction who look at this type of angle. After an introduction to the nature of science fiction, the historical chapters follow the science fiction stories from Thomas Moore to recent years, including a chapter on cinema and television.

Section II presents four important approaches to science fiction inspired by their theoretical inspiration from Marxism, postmodernism, feminism, and Querian theory. The last and larger part of the book looks at different subjects and sub-types of science fiction. A number of famous sci-fi writers in this volume, including Gwyneth Jones, Ken McLeod, Brian Steeleford, Andy Duncan, James Gunn, Joan Slonimjewski, and Damian Broderick contribute..
