Cambridge Textbooks in Linguistics synopsis

Andrew Radford's book, Minimum Construction, provides a concise, clear and accessible introduction to grammatical theory, drawing on the basic concepts of the Chomsky Minimum Program. Assuming a prior knowledge of grammatical theory or lack of knowledge, Radford takes students through a variety of subjects in English syntax - such as classes and features, integration, empty components, motion, state, and discrete estimates - and explains how the "arithmetic component" works within the limit Minimum.

From the initial level, the book presents grammatical concepts and sets the theoretical foundations of global principles, norms and norms, before progressing towards more complex phenomena. Each chapter contains a work section where students are encouraged to conduct their own analysis of English phrases and sentences through exercises, form answers, and "helpful hints".

There is also a broad glossary of terms.
