Cambridge Texts in the History of Philosophy Kant synopsis

The Metaphysics of Morals is Kant's main work in applied ethical philosophy in which he deals with the fundamental principles of rights and virtues. It consists of two parts: the "doctrine of truth", which deals with the rights that people own or can acquire, and the "doctrine of virtue", which deals with the virtues that they must obtain.

The translation of Mary Gregor, revised for publication in the Cambridge text series in the history of philosophy, is the only full translation of the full text, and includes extensive explanations of Kant's sometimes difficult and unusual vocabulary. A new introduction by Roger Sullivan sets out the work in its historical and philosophical context.

This volume will be of great importance to students of ethics and legal and political philosophy.
