Choosing Terror synopsis

The choice of terrorism: virtue, friendship and originality in the French Revolution The leaders of the French Revolution - Robespierre and his colleagues Jacob - are studying the gradual process, many of which came to "the choice of terrorism". These men led the Jacobi club between 1789 and 1794 and were trying to establish a new democratic policy in France.

By exploring revolutionary politics through the eyes of these leaders, and against the political background of a series of painful events, wars and betrayals, Mariza Linton portrayed Jacobites as complex human beings affected by personal emotions and loyalties, as well as by revolutionary ideology. The political functions of the entire Jacobine leaders were constrained by the need for their supporters to be seen as "virtuous men", free of corruption and ambition, and concerned only with the common good.

In the early stages of the revolution, they were seen as the "men of virtue" who could be the leaders of the Jacobs, helping them in their efforts to form their political careers. However, with the beginning of the war, there was a growing conviction that the political leaders who were demonstrating virtue were "the enemy within," conspiring secretly with France's foreign enemies.

By the second year, the year of terror, the identity of Jacobidism became a destructive force: in order to prove its validity, they had to be seen to act deceptively, to be prepared, if the public good demanded it, to denounce the destruction of their friends and even to sacrifice their lives. This desperate thinking led to the terror of politicians, one of the most brutal forms of terrorism during the revolution. The choice of terrorism does not seek to blame or acquit, but to understand the process in which such things can happen..
