The past 50 years have witnessed a tremendous artistic breakthrough in Seattle, which has given the city not only internationally recognized classical music institutions but also spectacular showrooms to showcase their work and the art of visiting artists. Igor Stravinsky, a guest speaker at the World Exposition in 1962, produced Speight Jenkins, an excellent producer of the Wagner Circle, to the work of philanthropists such as Jack and Becky Pinaroya.
Seattle is well known as a city of musical art. In "Classical Seattle," Melinda Bargren documents the lives of prominent figures in the local classical music world.
With her experience as a music critic, and based on her decades-long interviews, the 35 photographs presented here highlight the conductors, playwrights, authors, art organizers, and art leaders who formed the Seattle classical music community and made the world perform class Maybe.
