Delivering the Vision synopsis
The political discourse surrounding the role of information and knowledge in society in the twenty-first century often gives great satisfaction to the reality of practice. The presentation of the vision explores the way public service visions have evolved worldwide and their success in contributing to major social and economic change.
This revised text contains a series of case studies from the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, Canada, the United States and Australia. Contributors focus on those factors critical to success and on the causes of failure, but the common theme that emerges in all contributions is the need for a clear political vision, commitment and leadership if the shift from traditional forms of social and economic organization to high-value levels, knowledge-intensive economies are negotiated safely.
At the same time, individual case studies provide valuable schemes for successful implementation of an ambitious public service agenda. Vision is accessible and relevant to all those interested in the management and reform of public sector institutions.
It is a companion to the previous text of the editor, "Information Management and Knowledge in the Public Sector" (Routlegde: 2000)
