Diary of an Escape synopsis

Many people around the world know Antonio Negri as a world-renowned political thinker, and his book Empire, which he co-authored with Michael Hardt, is the bestseller in the world. Less well known is the fact that Negre, until 1979, was a university professor in Paris and Padova.

On April 7, 1979, he was arrested on charges of murdering Italian politician Aldo Moro, accused of 17 other murders, of being the leader of the Red Brigades and inciting rebellion against the state. Since then, all these charges have been exempted, but thanks to Italy's emergency laws at the time, he was sentenced to 30 years' imprisonment.

Then, in July 1983, he was elected as a member of parliament, meaning that he was released from prison after four and a half years of preventive detention. After months of controversy, the House of Representatives decided to strip him of his parliamentary immunity by 300 votes in favor and 293 against him.

At this point Italy left for exile in France where he remained until 1997 and continued to maintain his innocence of all the crimes he was accused of. This book is a memoir of Negri which tells of his imprisonment, trial, election, his escape to France and his exile.

Both personal and political, he lists an unknown aspect of Negri's life and will be of great importance to anyone interested in the work of this highly influential political thinker.
