Essays on Kant synopsis

This volume contains seventeen articles by Henry E. Allison, one of the world's leading Kant scholars.

It effectively covers the full spectrum of Allison's work in Kant, from the theory of knowledge, metaphysics, and moral theory to his views on the science of absence, political philosophy, philosophy of history, and philosophy of religion. But most of the articles revolve around three main themes: the nature of transcendental idealism and its relationship to other aspects of Kant's thought.

Freedom of will; and the concept of the purpose of nature. It was the first major theme of Allison's work on Kant since its inception.

Articles on the third theme make a major new contribution to Kant's critical philosophy. Their main concern is to show the central place of the Third Critique in Kant's thought.

Among the salient features of Allison's essays is the existence of an important comparative dimension, which places Kant's views in their historical context and explores their contemporary relationship. To this end, these views contrast with the views of his main predecessors and immediate successors, as well as the philosophers of today..
