Exploring the World of Elephants synopsis
Elephants of elephants were wandering around the planet, but today there are only two species: the African elephant and the Asian elephants. In this colorful introduction, young readers learn about the physical properties and history of the largest mammal on Earth. With a huge body and huge ears working as a built-in air conditioner, a two-meter trunk along the length of "fingers" to help it get food and water, a protective skin and stiff, large-sized teeth used as tools and weapons, the elephant is a significant force.
As is the complex social structure of elephants. While adult males make their own way, the largest female in the herd feeds and protects her extended family with the help of other females. Direct family members on long migration to find food and water, teach them life skills, organize search parties for missing members and defend against hostile methods.
Together, the family feeds and plays, welcomes a new life, builds and maintains relationships and mourns his death. In "Exploring the World of Elephants," young readers also discover the value of ensuring that these intelligent and attractive mammals do not suffer from the fate of their predecessors.
The Explore the World series was created ... for young readers who are eager to learn more about the wild creatures of the world. Each title contains beautiful images of animals in their natural environments, and the very readable text explores their everyday life and physical properties, how they make their homes, how they raise their young and what they eat..
