Gender and Holiness synopsis

This group combines two flourishing areas of scholarship in the Middle Ages: gender and religion. She studies gender-specific religious practices and claims that the pursuit of holiness can undermine the same dual type. Although saints can be classified as male or female, holiness can also intersect with gender divisions and demand a departure from normal sexual behavior.

This work of interdisciplinary cultural history includes contributions from historians, art historians and literary critics, and will be of relevance not only to the medieval class, but also to religion and gender students in any period.
