This book provides a personal and honest account of my VSO position in Indonesia. I'm just one of many current and current volunteers who are taking time from the natural rat race to Western life to help individuals and / or groups in remote places that are much less fortunate than us.

The details in this book provide a daily look at adapting to a new environment, language, food, culture, work practices and traditions that sometimes differ greatly in our view. My career in private employment required the assistance of management and staff of a relatively new NGO on the issue of capacity-building in securing livelihoods for rural communities.

In fact, it included much more and a desire to be patient and adaptable! Emotions during the placement varied from complete frustration and vanity to the sprinkling of liberal humor, without tolerating a number of painful health incidents. It's time to leave my post I can safely say that it was a life-changing experience and a future of memorable memories.

The reward was rewarding in an emotional and professional sense, and I came home after having acquired a group of new friends from different backgrounds and nationalities.
