I Maccabees synopsis

"Apocryphal's I Maccabees (Volume 41 in the acclaimed Anchor Bible series) is an inspiring thriller." With the help of God, the old priest Mattathias and his sons - Judah, Mikabaeus, Jonathan and Simon - led the Jews in Judaism first to victory and then to freedom against the great successors of Alexander the Great. Their struggle begins in guerrilla warfare, in response to the horrific persecution of King Antiochus IV, bravely carrying out their first great victory - still celebrated at the Hanukkah Festival.

The introduction to this folder is not only the I maccabees , but also the parallel calculations found in II and show that my authors and II maccabees are convinced Excited to teach two sharply opposing views. In some cases, their convictions blinded the truth, but Professor Goldstein made their teachings available to the contemporary reader and reconstructed what actually happened, making valuable contributions to Greek and Roman history as well as to Jewish history.

Nineteen maps and diagrams set the stage for the dramatic struggle and turbulent times described in I i maccabees .
