It's a Nonlinear World synopsis

Drawing examples from mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, economics, medicine, politics and sports, this book shows how nonlinear dynamics play a vital role in our world. Examples cover a wide range of infectious disease outbreaks and control, the unpredictability of long-term weather forecasting, and competition between political groups and States. After an introductory chapter exploring the meaning of being nonlinear, it covers mathematical concepts such as cycles of reduction, fractals, chaos, ramifications, and generators, which will be applied throughout the book.

Many simulations and computer exercises allow students to explore subjects in greater depth using the Maple Computer Algebra System. The mathematical level of text assumes the prior exposure to normal differential equations and the habituation of wave equations and propagation.

There is no presupposition of Maple. The book can be used at the undergraduate or postgraduate level to prepare science and engineering students for problems in the "real world", or for self-study by scientists and practicing engineers..
