James Richards synopsis
James Richards: To replace the silence of minutes with the applause of minutes is the last four unique studies documenting four contemporary artist selections from the V-A-C group in Moscow and later exhibited at the White Chappelle exhibition in 2014/2015. James Richards, one of the environmentalists, is accompanied by Francis Bacon's study of a personal image with a sound fixation of public silence - mourning, remembrance or pause in films.
The singers inhale and stop before cutting the song while the church bells are filled with the surrounding sound. In addition to full-color photography, the publication includes an interview with the artist, an essay by Secretary of Sound David Top explores the interactions between sound, silence and drawing, and an article by historian Barbara Dawson on the Francis Bacon study of a personal image (1953)..
