Joy in Work, German Work synopsis

This book analyzes in detail the German debate on the importance and meaning of work because it changed under the influence of industrialization, with particular emphasis on the period between the two world wars. It covers the writings of thinkers such as Hegel, Marx and Weber, but also examines the contributions of industrial psychologists, engineers, teachers and others who have actively promoted reforms aimed at solving the problem of alienation, whether through change or change.

The nature of work or by changing the attitudes of workers. The last section deals with national socialists, who have promised to reinvigorate German work ethic, restore happiness at work, and reintegrate the German worker into Volk society.

The writer draws our attention in particular to the policies and institutions of the Third Reich aimed at achieving these national socialist goals of the worker. Thus, Joan Campbell shows how the history of the idea of work deepens our understanding of the origins, nature and attractiveness of Nazism.

In a broader context, their sources are used to explore the relationship between social and intellectual change. Originally published in 1989.
