The primary Leverhulme project mentioned here provides for the first time a demonstration of what is really happening in today's teacher education and about how novice teachers learn their character. The book examines in detail the experience of all teacher students in a training course for post-graduate primary teachers and those responsible for them in their university and in schools.

It follows them when they acquire the appropriate knowledge and pedagogical knowledge, as their own beliefs about the development of teaching during the course. The last section follows some students during their first year as qualified teachers.
