Maps and texts synopsis

Maps and Texts: Adoption of the Historical Irish Cities Atlas, by H.B. Clarke and Sarah Gearty combine actions from the IHTA annual series of maps and texts: using the Irish Historical Atlas of the Royal Irish Academy from 2012 to 2014.

The book contains comparative articles on Irish cities in the thematic sections. IHTA is the leading authority in comparative urban studies in Ireland.

Maps and texts look at different components of the city and life style of Ireland from monastic institutions to Victorian cities. Using the IHTA series, experts present their vision of urban life such as the influence of the environment, religion, castles, the Grand House, the exit of the canal, railways, military barracks and public buildings on Irish cities.

Case studies are also presented on Derry ~ Londonderry, Dublin and Limerick along with a historical artistic perspective of the Anglo-Norman, Galician cities and towns.
