Modern European Philosophy synopsis

This collection of essays, first published in German in 1995, was written by the first representative of the interpretive approach to German philosophy. The book offers a completely original interpretation of the French tradition of ideal thought - Kant, Fisch, Schilling, Hegel. Rudiger Böpner seeks to shed new light on original philosophical innovations in the range of issues and aspirations that dominated German intellectual life from 1780 to 1830.

His main question is: How did intellectuals change philosophy, reformulate traditional issues, and, in particular, reinterpret traditional figures? His answer to this question includes a focus on the literary and cultural spirit of the time, thus expanding the question of philosophical innovation and positioning it within a broader framework of innovation and continuity within the Western intellectual tradition itself. This collection will be of particular interest to students of German philosophy, literary theory and history of ideas..
