This book is a newspaper reader of the American student who completed a year and a half to two years of modern Chinese. The fourteen choices in the reader illustrate how the United States was portrayed in the comments and articles in the People's Daily from 1990 to 1991.

Covering the crisis of education, social injustice, human rights abuses and racial discrimination, the articles are generally criticized, even anti-American society as a whole: The controversial will raise students' interest and participate in the classroom. Each selection is presented with traditional and simplified characters, with a copy of the actual newspaper article and the cartoons included: each accompanied by a glossary of terms, wholesale patterns explained in English, and suggested discussion topics.

In addition to the 14 glossy choices, eight non-yellow articles are included as supplementary reading materials. Audio and video materials are available for use with this text.
