Politics, Identity and Education in Central Asia Post synopsis

This book focuses on politics, identity and education, and examines some of the most pressing issues facing Kyrgyzstan in the post-Soviet era. He argues that Kyrgyzstan faces the challenge of oscillations between the old and the new, on the one hand, and the domestic and international on the other.

The book analyzes the post-Soviet transition in Kyrgyzstan today by focusing on political elites, some major identity problems and educational issues. He discusses how Kyrgyzstan's first post-Soviet president was already an exceptional leader even before the collapse of the Soviet Union in terms of his democratic and liberal tendencies.

The book reviews how identity is a key factor in the country, shaped largely by the relative factors and mechanisms of the beneficiary and client on the one hand, and religious considerations on the other. Finally, it highlights how education is seen as a very influential factor in socialization that not only develops literacy and other skills, but also the common attitudes and values that are essential to any society.

By assessing these three areas, the book argues that Kyrgyzstan can not isolate itself from the demands, priorities and pressures of international actors that sometimes conflict with the internal conditions of the country. It is of interest to students and scholars of Asian studies, politics and international relations..
