Prairie Dreams synopsis

Prairie Dreams is an ecological history of the Great Plains, a history of interaction between European culture and pasture in North America. Arguing that the stories of man and nature in the plains are inextricably linked, and that the development of a more ethical future, focused on the preservation of the region, must be based on a more coherent and integrated understanding of both human and natural history. But this history is not just a story of physical change, from rearing, settlement, landscape transformation, and extinction of wildlife.

It is also the story of our values, our morals and our ideology, our mental relationship with the natural world, how we perceive and understand the earth and how it is shaped by our cultures and traditions. The Great Plains were, and still are, a place to highlight our dreams and discover ourselves, who we are and what we value most.

Their history is an inevitable parable of our relationship with the earth.
