Revisiting Globalization and the Rise of Global Production Networks synopsis

This book deals with the analogy of contemporary globalization with commercial interdependence in the 19th century. The characteristic feature of contemporary globalization is the proliferation of global production networks, which have been remarkably absent in the past.

Masood points out that the emergence of global production networks (GPNs) was not the result of economic and commercial liberalization, but rather the new protectionist developments of the 1980s that served as a catalyst for transforming Japan's national production networks into existing GPNs everywhere. .

Through this case study in Japan, the author sets out a case for revising the origins of globalization and explores some of the likely outcomes that flow from a progressive evolutionary transition to a global economy.
