Russia's Security Policy under Putin synopsis
This book examines the evolution of Russian security policy under Putin in the 21st century, using a critical security approach. Drawing on critical approaches to security, the book examines the interrelationship between internal and external relations and policy (in) security and regime building in Putin Russia.
In so doing, it assesses how this evolving relationship between state identities and security discourse has developed the framework of individual security policies, and how individual issues can, in turn, affect the rhetoric of State programs and security. To this end, discourses and practices of securitization are discussed in the Chechen case as a case study. By doing so, this study has broader implications for the way we read Russia as a security body through an approach that emphasizes the importance of observing its security culture, the interrelationship between internal / external security priorities, the enormous changes in Russian perceptions of itself, national and security priorities and Concepts for major security issues, in this case Chechnya.
These aspects of the Russian security agenda remain, to some extent, a neglected field of research, but, as argued in this book, the presentation of the structure and the framing of the effects on how we understand Russia's position on security issues, and perhaps those emerging powers on a larger scale.
