Secret Loughton Secret synopsis

Loughton has a long history dating back to Fort Iron Hill hill, Camp Loughton. The town also had an important role in the period of Theodore when Luton Hall was owned by Mary Tudor before becoming a queen. The area was part of Epping Forest and was the site of a series of crimes associated with such a rural landscape.

Being on a regular bus route from London to Cambridge, it was also an ideal place for a motorway race. The lure of easy money because of the theft on the highway was more enticing than the local butcher, Dick Turpin, who supposedly had domesticized a local widow because of her own fire to find out where her cache was for her money.

The area expanded in the 19th century with the advent of railways. However, the company's refusal to offer cheap tickets to the working man led to the survival of the middle class too.

During the Victorian era Loughton became popular with those of artistic and scientific interests, and some political reformers. The author joins Michael Foley while disappearing under the surface to reveal the real mystery of Loughton..
