Social by Nature synopsis

Sociology quickly became one of the most modern sciences of the new millennium. Practitioners view human nature and the consequences of life as a result of genetic and social factors.

In Social by Nature, Catherine Bliss recognizes the promise made by this small multidisciplinary science, but also questions its implications for the future. As suggests, the claim that genetic similarity makes groups of people behave in similar ways is not new, and that the dark history of eugenics warns us of its dangers.

Over the past decade, social genetics has enjoyed a largely non-monetary rise to the emergence and acceptance of popular culture. The researchers have published studies showing that things like academic achievement, gang membership, and life satisfaction are encoded in our DNA long before the first word is said.

Curiously, unlike the racial debates on IQ scores in the 1970s and 1990s, genetic sociology was not affected by any major reaction. By exposing the striking similarities between sociology of social science and old, non-penetrating science, Bliss convincingly argues for a more in-depth survey of any study that reduces human nature to just a series of genes.

This book is a powerful call for researchers to deal with their work in more socially responsible ways and must be read to anyone who wants to understand the grant that affects how we perceive ourselves and our society.
