the book of ayas synopsis

In the book of the verse, Neil McLeod takes his place among the original storytellers on the continent. Stories about the verses - a traditional Cree figure living in exile, confusion, and meetings in a dark spirit - were placed in the plains world in the mid-nineteenth century.

McLeod then extrapolates these stories into the experience of contemporary indigenous men who deal with the legacy of colonial violence and trauma. In the center of vision McLeod is the ancient marriage of Cree and Earth.

"With the revival of kinehiyawewinaw (our Cree language)," he says, "we can wake old horse songs from our ancestors and sing our beings to perfection and light." Regina Press strongly oversees the publication of this unusual long poem. McLeod has given us an important work in the history of narrative and deep reflection and passionate about cultural violence and renewal of activity.

Destined to become a classic. The book of the verse is of particular interest to Ann Carson's autobiography of Red and Claudia Rankine Citizen, as well as any reader looking for the latest powerful original sounds..
