The History of Radiology synopsis
In 1890, Professor Arthur Willis Godspeed, a physics professor in Pennsylvania, USA, worked with the English-born photographer, William En Jennings, when he inadvertently produced the image of Roentgen Ray. Unfortunately, the importance of their findings was overlooked, and the official x-ray discovery was due to Wilhelm Röntgen in 1895.
This discovery has since transformed medicine, and over the past 130 years, the development of radiological techniques has continued to grow. The effect has been observed in almost every hospital in the world, from the routine use of ultrasound to pregnancy tests, and even the diagnosis of complex medical problems such as brain tumors.
More brilliantly, x-rays were also used in DNA detection and military warfare, and their social impact can be seen through popular culture in animation, books, films and art. Written by two radiologists who have a passion for the history of their field, the History of Radiology is a beautifully illustrated review of the fascinating developments within radiology, scientists and pioneers who participated.
This attractive and reliable history will attract a wide audience, including medical students studying for a diploma in the history of medicine at the Pharmaceutical Society (DHMSA), doctors, medical physicists, medical historians and radiographers.
