The Liberal Arts in Higher Education synopsis
Liberal arts in highereducation launch an institutional effort to create a common definition and articulate liberal arts and liberaleducation by expanding centuries-old dialogue to the campus of the mixed Christian University of Azusa. The book contains "working" definitions of key terms, including: liberal arts, liberaleducation, trivium, quartet, liberalism, public education and a brief review of five models of liberaleducation. He also describes five permanent debates on liberaleducation: the relationship between moral and intellectual virtue, disciplinary division between science and humanity, the relationship between liberal and liberaleducation and the postmodern challenge to traditional understanding of liberaleducation. Four original articles explore the scope and nature of liberaleducation, while ten critical reviews discuss some of the most cited works on the subject.
These articles provide a philosophical assessment of the past and present nature of liberaleducation as well as suggestions on how to redesign Christian liberal education.
