Vodun in Coastal Benin synopsis
Dana Rush's research centers around the former port of prosperity in Oueda, Benin, extending through Togo to Ghana, an area where exchanges between history, ideas and doctrinal systems are exchanged. This is a land where Changu, Jesus, and the Buddha are all gods of Voodon.
Where Hindu and voodoo gods coexist; the lives of people are celebrated 150 years ago by the children of their long-lost masters; the images, artists and lives of Haiti, Brazil and Cuba remain relevant to contemporary West African practices. The book has been filmed profusely with colorful images of voodoo shrines, temple wall paintings, antiques, and coniferous stone images of Hinduism.
This book is the first publication in a new series called "Critical Investigations of African Expats. "" A series that emerges from issues in monetary investigations, the Vanderbilt initiative to help junior researchers through critical feedback from senior faculty members, annual seminars, and prize competitions in the humanities and social sciences.
Dana Rush at Vodun in Coastal Benin is the winner of the opening ceremony of the Anna Julia Cooper Prize in Humanities.
