Privacy policy

How BookEpub handles technical information, correspondence, external services and any future Google advertising.

Scope and responsibility

This policy covers the public BookEpub website and correspondence sent to its publisher. It does not cover a retailer, library, advertisement destination or other external service after you visit it. The publisher identified in our legal notice is responsible for the personal information handled by BookEpub. Privacy requests can be made through the contact page.

Information involved in a visit

  • Technical requests: the web server and hosting infrastructure receive your IP address, request time, requested URL, browser information and technical errors. These may appear in access, security or error logs. We use this information to deliver pages, investigate failures and protect the service.
  • Searches: catalogue searches are sent in the page URL. A search term may consequently appear in browser history and hosting logs. Do not enter personal or sensitive information into the book search.
  • Correspondence: if you email us, your email service and ours process your address, message and any information you choose to provide. We use that information to address the enquiry, correction, rights request or complaint. There is no public account registration, comment submission or newsletter subscription on the current site.

External resources and catalogue enrichment

Bibliographic enrichment is performed by our server, separately from a reader’s visit. We do not need to send a reader’s email or identity to a book-data API to display an edition. Some book covers or author portraits may load from their credited source rather than our own server; that source then receives the technical information needed for the image request. Some reading-option pages also load JavaScript from jsDelivr, which receives the corresponding request. The provider may process an IP address, browser information and a referrer as permitted by the browser and our referrer policy.

External links can lead to Amazon, Open Library, Internet Archive, Google Books, Wikimedia services, WorldCat or another identified source. Clicking a link starts a separate interaction governed by that service’s terms and privacy notice. An affiliate link can include our publisher tracking tag; it does not contain an email address supplied to BookEpub.

Advertising and Google cookies

Advertising is not currently enabled in this version of BookEpub. The site does not currently load Google AdSense or an audience-analytics tag. The following explains the processing that would apply if Google advertising is activated; it does not mean those advertising cookies are being set now.

When Google ads are enabled, third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s advertising cookies enable Google and its partners to serve ads based on visits to this and other sites. Advertising can also involve web beacons, IP addresses and device or browser identifiers for ad delivery, measurement, security and fraud prevention. Non-personalised ads can still involve data processing and cookies; that label does not mean tracking is absent.

You can manage personalised advertising through Google My Ad Center and participating vendors’ choices at YourAdChoices. Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services. These choices do not replace any consent request required on the website. Before advertising is enabled for visitors in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, the relevant consent management must be configured, including a Google-certified consent management platform where Google requires it. The consent interface must identify the active vendors and purposes and allow available choices to be revisited.

Purposes, legal grounds and recipients

Where a law requires a lawful basis, delivery and security of the website are based on the legitimate interest in operating a reliable service, subject to applicable rights. Correspondence is processed to answer your request, resolve a concern or meet a legal duty, as appropriate. Consent is used for optional cookies or personalised advertising where required; essential service access is not conditional on consenting to personalised advertising.

Information may be handled by hosting, security and email providers acting for the publisher, or disclosed where necessary to comply with a valid legal obligation or protect legal rights. We do not sell correspondence or maintain a public database of visitors. External providers and any future advertising partners may process information in other countries. Their role and any transfer safeguards depend on the service and law involved; this policy does not promise that all processing stays within one country.

Retention and security

Correspondence is kept only for the time needed to resolve and document its purpose, unless a legal duty or an unresolved dispute requires longer retention. Technical-log and backup retention depend on the active hosting and service settings; no fixed automatic deletion period is represented here as already enforced. You may ask the publisher about the records relevant to your request. We limit access to operational data and do not publish enquiry messages. No method of online transmission or storage is completely secure.

Your choices and rights

Depending on the law that applies, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information, restrict or object to processing, receive portable information, or withdraw consent without affecting earlier lawful processing. We may need proportionate information to verify a request and will explain any lawful reason that prevents full compliance. You may also complain to the data-protection authority with jurisdiction over your concern. Browser settings and the choices described in our cookie policy offer additional controls.

Children and changes

The site is a general book catalogue and does not provide accounts or collect profile information from children. Please avoid sending a child’s personal information in an enquiry. If a concern involves a child’s data, contact the publisher. We update this policy when the actual services or practices change; the date above records the latest policy revision.
